As of May 6, 2024, Canada Post’s new postage rates went into effect. “For stamps purchased in a booklet, coil or pane, which represent the majority of stamp sales, the rate would increase by seven cents, to 99 cents per stamp.” The rate change also affects other products, some of which also impact the United States. “Prior to these proposed changes coming into effect, domestic letter mail rates have increased twice over the last decade (five cents in 2019 and two cents in 2020), with the last major pricing change made on March 31, 2014.”
These rate changes have been brought about due to inflation impacting the cost of providing a postal service to all Canadian and less mail to deliver to more addresses. The Canada post is funded by revenue from sales rather than tax dollars, so the rate changes are necessary.
